What tog is best for a duvet?

Looks might come into it, but duvets are mainly about practicality. How do they make you feel when you’re wrapped up snug in bed? Are they doing their job of keeping you comfortable, cosy, and warm enough to drift off? Well, togs are what you call upon to do the job.

A ‘tog’ is a rating of how much your duvet will keep you warm through the night. While tog ratings range from 1 up to 15, it is recommended to get a different tog duvet for the seasons. That way, you can always enjoy a comfortable night’s sleep no matter the weather!

Summer and winter duvets vary a lot when it comes to thickness. Here at DUSK, we offer our duvets in 4.5 tog, 9 tog, 13.5 tog and ‘All Seasons’. Generally, the higher the tog, the thicker it is, so higher togs are recommended for winter duvets. The same goes for the warmer months, when you might want to think about downsizing the tog count to a more lightweight duvet.

If you’re not too sensitive to being too hot or cold at night, then our All Seasons duvet offers a breathable and indulgent alternative. In fact, this handy duvet is actually two duvets (a 4.5 tog and a 9 tog) fastened together for 13.5 togs.

If you get too hot in the summer, take one of the duvets off - or should you get chilly at the start of winter, fasten the two duvets back together. Now, that’s unrivalled versatility!

And if you and your partner can’t decide on the right tog count? Accommodate both parties – and get two smaller duvets with different tog ratings! Sorted.

What is the best filling for duvets?

The best duvet filling is dependent on the person sleeping underneath it. It’s the one that makes you feel amazingly cosy as soon as you curl up under it, helping your body give a deep, inwards ‘ahhhh’ every time the clock strikes ‘snooze’.

But which duvet filling will grant you that blissful moment? If you like a weighty feeling on your body when sleeping, feather duvets are ideal. They are heavier and slightly flatter than down duvets as they have their quills left intact. Down duvets on the other hand are lighter and airier, made with fluffy, feathery clusters. They offer a deliciously gentle experience and, as the clusters are distributed evenly, are better at retaining a consistent temperature.

You can get combination duvet fillings, like duck down and goose down. Here at DUSK, our duck down duvets are 60% down and 40% feather, offering a supreme mix of softness and support. The same goes for our goose down duvets which comprise of 80% goose down and 20% goose feathers – our cuddliest combination!

And if you would rather have a synthetic duvet filling that still delivers a generous dose of zzz’s, then our Feels Like Down collection is the perfect bedtime companion. Made from microfibre, this superior synthetic material is designed to mimic the luxurious feel of down and feather. Plus, it’s slightly cheaper than natural feathers and is the answer for any allergy sufferer. Match with a pair of Feels Like Down pillows to complete the plump, plush picture.
