Bed Linen FAQs

How do I wash my bed linen?

To wash bed linen, first read the label for any washing or care instructions. Then, separate white bed linen from coloured linens and clothes to prevent unwanted dying between fabrics.

In most cases, bedroom linens should be washed at 30 or 40 C. Bleach shouldn’t be used when washing bed linen as this can cause it to lose softness and discolour.

You should then hang your bed linen to air dry, using the radiator on days of bad weather.

Consult our bed linen care guide for more advice.

How should I store my bed linen?

Store your bed linen so that it’s fresh, neat and ready with these simple steps:

  1. Launder at a low temperature to ensure they’re fully clean before storage, as unseen dirt can cause discolouration over time.
  2. Fold neatly to reduce the risk of creasing.
  3. Keep bedding from the same set together by storing them in the same cloth bag or pillowcase.
  4. Place your linens in your chosen storage space. If you don’t have a linen cupboard, the top shelf of your wardrobe or a drawer can work well. Or for super smart storage, try an ottoman bed, bench or pouffe.

How do I dress a bed?

Create the bed of your dreams by dressing it according to your personal style.

Start with a mattress topper. Whilst this item of bedding is optional, you won’t want to miss out on the extra layer of blissful comfort it adds to your bed.

Next, add your bed linens. Choose crisp, white bedding for a hotel feel or pick out bed linen in a colour that complements your bedroom decor. Patterned bedding is also a brilliant option for a warmer, cosier touch.

Choose between tucking your duvet under your mattress or letting it drape over your bed frame. The first option showcases the upholstery of the bed whilst the second puts the patterns and colours of your duvet cover on full display.

Pillows can be stacked flat or propped up against the headboard. The first is wonderful for displaying pretty patterning, whilst the second means your pillows are in a slumber-ready position at all times.

Finish with a throw draped across the bottom and a scattering of cushions in front of the pillows for those little touches.
