Pencil Pleat Curtains FAQs

What are pencil pleat curtains?

Pencil pleat curtains are a popular style characterised by their neat, evenly spaced pleats along the top edge. These pleats resemble a row of tightly gathered, pencil-like folds, giving them the name they have today.

How to put up pencil pleat curtains

In order to get the best possible result when installing your pencil pleat curtains, follow these simple steps:

Step 1: Measure and Prepare the Space

Measure the width of your window to determine the appropriate size for your curtain rod or track. Mark the positions for the brackets or hooks that will hold the curtain rod. Use a level to ensure they are straight.

Step 2: Install the Curtain Rod or Track

If using a curtain rod, attach it to the brackets. If using a track, fix it securely to the wall or ceiling according to the manufacturer's instructions. Ensure the rod or track is level.

Step 3: Prepare the Curtains

Lay out the curtains on a flat surface with the wrong side facing up. Insert curtain hooks or thread curtain rings through the loops or pockets at the top of the curtains. Make sure the hooks or rings are evenly spaced.

Step 4: Attach the Curtains

For pencil pleat curtains, gather the pleats to your desired width. This will create a neat, gathered look. Attach the curtain hooks or rings to the curtain rod -  the hooks should be inserted into the pockets created by the pleats.

Step 5: Adjust and Arrange

Once the curtains are attached, adjust them to ensure they hang evenly and are not bunched up in any areas. If needed, adjust the gathers to achieve the desired fullness.

What length should pencil pleat curtains be?

For a clean and tidy finish, your curtains should fall all the way to the floor, creating a perfect neat line between the two surfaces. The hem should just kiss your floorboards or carpet.
